A powerful and beautifully executed abstract by a significant post war artist. Housed in original, period gilded wooden frame with age related wear. Please contact for further condition report.

  • Shusaku Paul Jean Foujino was born and educated in Japan. He came to Paris in 1953 and studied under Lacasse. He exhibited in Japan and in three Salons d'Art Sacre in Paris and Germany, and at the Galerie Massol, Paris. His work was reproduced in Michel Seuphor's "History of Abstract Painting" 1963. This painting was from his second one man show at the Drian Gallery  held in 1964.

    Painted with heavy, impasto oil onto canvas. The piece is signed to the bottom left and has provenance having been exhibited in 1964 at the Drian Gallery, London. We have the accompanying Drian Gallery catalogue.

    Foujino is held by Centre Pompidou Paris.
